The sixth year of ACT

Palakkad, India

Ammucare entered its seventh year on 25 October, 2009. The following is a review of what little we could do during the past one year.

Ammucare Village.

The Working Committee of Ammucare Charitable Trust (ACT) decided to start the construction of a building for a Clinic at the Ammucare Village, with the funds in hand, expecting to complete the work with generous contributions from the well-wishers. The site leveling, foundation and basement could be completed within a couple of months. In view of the escalation of the cost of building materials and increase in labour charges a fresh estimate for the completion of the ground floor, eletrification and sanitary arrangements, costing Rs. 25 Lakhs, was prepared. Due to paucity of funds no further steps could be taken in the matter.

Distribution of blankets.

Distribution of blankets to the destitute in Delhi in the winter season, started in the very first year of Ammucare and continued through the years, was extended substantially to benefit more people. Food packets were also distributed along with blankets. Tarang, a voluntary organisation based at Delhi, enthusiastically associated with us in executing the project successfully. The same service was extended to Madagaon, Shirdi in Maharashtra State, for the first time this year.

Distribution of school uniforms and note books.

Uniform cloths and note books were distributed to all students of the Aided Lower Primary School, Attassery, situated near the Ammucare Village, on the first of June, 2009 - the day of reopening after the summer holidays.

The 'Best Actress' Award.

Ms. Biljana Radonic was selected as the best actress for her debut role as heroine in the feature film "Foreignchi Patlin" for the Maharashtra 'State Film Awards - 2008' . The film also received the "Best Comedy" award. The awards were distributed in a ceremonial function at Mumbai in March, 2009. The movie is based on rural Marathi life and the clash between two cultures. The film marked the debut of three persons - Ms. Radonic, the heroine, Ms. Sanjeevani Gavai, the producer and Mr. Pradeep Ghonsikar, the director. And it is for the first time in the history of Marathi films that a foreign actress acted in a lead role.

An academic at heart, Ms. Radonic was the recipient of Balkan Presidential Scholarship to pursue International Affairs at John Cabot University in Italy, as well as a prestigeous scholarship for a Master's program at the Kroc Institute for Peace Studies at Notre Dame University in U.S. She has worked for United Nations in Croatia and Kosovo and as Office Manager and Consultant in Dubai. She is also a practising Yoga Teacher and Salsa instructor in her free time. Now she is working at Muscat.

Ms. Radonic is an ardent member of Ammucare. She played a key role in the distribution of Blankets to the poor in North India last winter. Now she is working at Muscat. We wish her all success in her future ventures. Ammucare wishes to thank all our members, friends and well-wishers for their sincere and dedicated services which made whatever we did possible. We specially thank all our contributors and sponsors for their continued goodwill and generosity.
