Blanket Distribution for the homeless on the streets of Delhi- Nov 24, 2010
Dear friends,
After visiting girls shelter on Sunday, 24th of November, 2010, we have decided to cover with love some of those homeless people whom you can see sleeping on the streets of Delhi. It was Children’s Day that day, but our blankets will from now on give warmth even to those who were children few decades back. At the end of the day, each one of us carries that very special, eternal child deep within, which makes us acting childlike sometimes (if only it was more often), allowing us to be spontaneous, joyful, innocent and trustful like a child. Celebrating that divine child within each and every individual, ACT has acted as a loving mother, giving an opportunity to these street people to cuddle under warm blankets and wear-clothes which were collected with so much of love and compassion.
We mostly visited areas around temples, gurudvaras, bus stations, markets, etc., since these are the places where you can see them the most. It was so touching coming close to all of them. We found leprosy people, those with open wounds and hundreds of flies around them, those who couldn’t even walk, beggars, elders, etc., etc. We made it a point to come to each and every one of them and cover them with our blankets. I must admit that we had to hold our breath mostly, as well as to move fast since we are not used to all the flies. Few times I had to hold my heart not to skip the beat seeing open wounds and flies on them.
I know that people whom we helped were just a small drop of water in this huge ocean of poverty, but only united drops can make a wave of change. Do join us creating the same.
Only love,
Dana (24 Nov. 2010).
