29 Apr is the Mahasamadhi (a saint’s conscious exit from the body) of Baba Ganeshananda Giri (lovingly addressed by Mohanji as Babaji). Five years back, Babaji left on this day at the age of 106, after initiating the construction of a magnificent Sai Baba temple near Chennai, which was to be his final resting place as directed by Sai Baba.
Babaji was a great saint who led his life under the sole guidance of Sai Baba. Sheltered by Sai Baba from the tender age of four, he lived with Sai Baba for three years until Sai Baba took mahasamadhi in 1918. He then led the life of a parivrajaka (wandering monk) in the Himalayas, built temples across India, and worked tirelessly to spread Sai Baba’s message.
In memory of Babaji, Ammucare performed Annadaan (food donation) for monks and renunciates, vastra daan (donation of clothes) for brahmins and feeding of fishes in Haridwar, Shirdi and Thiruvannamalai (Arunachala). Hundreds were fed in the memory of our beloved Babaji who as a disciple of Sai Baba, always had feeding of beings close to his heart. We fondly remember the special bond between Mohanji and Babaji that belied their short association. Mohanji met Babaji for the first time jut four months prior in Shirdi in Dec 2015. Babaji’s Sai Baba temple project near Chennai flourishes as a living testament to his powerful intent that has held steady even through his passage to the beyond.
