MOHANPUR WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
When we empower a woman, we empower the nation. In the spirit of women empowerment, Ammucare has taken up the initiative of Mohanpur Skill Training and Development centre. This is a small training and manufacturing unit set up at Mohanpur village in Jharkhand near Jamshedpur. It intends to impart skill based training to the poor and aspiring women who were deprived of education due to financial constraints. By means of machines, tools, infrastructure and technical know-how to produce fabric based products, garments and other fashion products, the centre aims at generating employment for marginalised women and making them financially independent. The ultimate goal of providing the necessary training and infrastructure is to enable the centre to undertake marketing and selling of the products made to turn it into a self-sustainable model.
The centre began as a small rented room in a village. We have now successfully moved into a larger room with 6 motorised sewing machines, steam iron, electricity and furniture. It currently supports 11 women. The training began with teaching them how to draw straight lines and shapes and proceeded to using scissors and cutting different shapes. The women are now learning how to hand stitch and embroider. Alongside training them in matters of design and sewing, they are also given basic English training which will be of help in the future. The empowerment project though in its nascent stage, has elaborate plans of equipping them with technical and marketing skills to help them grow big and in turn support more women.
